There are three different types of eclipses: lunar, solar, and annular. The eclipse that will be happening during this event is a solar eclipse. This occurs when the moon is in between the sun and the earth. Since the umbra is able to reach earth, this is classified as a total solar eclipse.
During this event, we will be watching the solar eclipse from PennWest Edinboro's football field. When you're watching the solar eclipse, make sure you bring protective eyewear. Regular sunglasses will not be able to protect your eyes well enough. M95 welders glass or approved solar eclipse watching glasses are recommended. We will be selling branded and tested eclipse watching glasses.
Worried about your kid's entertainment during the downtime? Fear no longer, because PennWest Edinboro has got you covered! The art department will have eclipse themed crafts and face painting stations. Science students set up eclipse themed games to provide fun and education. There will also be a petting zoo, with animals from the Erie Zoo and the ANNA Shelter.
